Boparan buys another food business
The casual dining restaurants were acquired by Giraffe Concepts Ltd, which was itself bought by Boparan Restaurants Holdings, from Tesco, earlier this year.
Included in the deal, alongside the restaurants, is the brand and the head office team.
‘The opportunities ahead’
Giraffe md Tom Crowley said: “Ed’s Easy Diner has been an integral part of the UK casual dining scene for the past four decades and we are very excited about the business joining the group and the opportunities ahead.”
In addition to Giraffe, Boparan Restaurants Holdings also owns and operates Harry Ramsdens, FishWorks and The Cinnamon Collection.
‘Carefully crafted’
The latest Boparan acquisition followed the controversial takeover last week of Bernard Matthews’ turkey business. The deal appeared to have been “carefully crafted” to enable secured creditors to extract maximum value from the company – while at the same time dumping the pension scheme and other liabilities – a Work and Pensions Committee briefing has concluded.
Other food business acquisitions by Boparan this year included: Grove Farms’s turkey business in Ireland and the Cinnamon restaurant brand.
