Lancashire-based bakery ingredients maker James Fleming & Co is to be sold to Dutch firm Zeelandia at the turn of the year.

The takeover will allow Zeelandia to expand its bakery fillings offer and grow its customer base in the UK.

Currently owned by German firm Südzucker Group, Fleming & Co specialises in producing mincemeat, jams, jellies and caramel for industrial use.

‘Demand for fruit products’

Royal Zeelandia Group chief executive Michiel de Ruiter said: “The demand for fruit products and fillings continues to be on the rise.

“We already have two excellent production facilities for fruit products, in Belgium and the Czech Republic. With this acquisition, we will expand our fruit-producing capabilities as a group.”

The sale will be effective from January 1 2017.
