Aldi aims to create 150 jobs and offer training for 100 staff and apprentices a year in a new store and training centre development in Liverpool.

The centre is set to be officially opened on June 4 by deputy Lord Mayor of Liverpool Roz Gladden. It would include a number of smaller retail units to serve the local area the discounter said.

The new food store would generate up to 50 local jobs, with additional roles created by four additional retail units, including an outlet for sandwich firm Subway according to Aldi.

The new training centre would be the first purpose-built facility of its kind and has been created to support Aldi’s centralised recruitment academy.

Apprentices

It would create an in-store environment for staff and apprentices to learn new roles and develop skills, the company said. Facilities would include a mock store with shelving units and tills, as well as a number of training and meeting rooms, it added.

It will provide training for up to 100 staff and apprentices each year for the Liverpool and Merseyside areas, helping to deliver the next generation of the Aldi workforce for the region.

“We are delighted to be nearing the completion of our Aldi Academy and new food store for Lorenzo Drive, both of which have been a long time coming,” said Aldi property director George Brown.

Recruitment and training

“Aldi is proud of its recruitment and training programme, which recognises talent and commitment, providing on average higher wages than those across the industry. Our academy and new store will create around 150 local jobs combined, with additional roles created by the new retail units.”

Aldi was awarded 13 Gold and 12 Silver awards wins at FoodManufacture.co.uk sister title The Grocer’s Own Label Awards last month.

The company also recently overtook Tesco in a recent top 20 BrandZ brand survey.
