Greencore’s expansion creates 150 jobs

Greencore has made a multi-million pound investment at its Worksop sandwich manufacturing facility, creating 150 jobs.

The expansion at Greencore’s Manton 110 site on the Manton Wood Business Park will create 70 initial jobs, with potential for a further 80 in the future.

The firm’s md for its Food-to-Go Convenience business, Steve Evans, said the Nottinghamshire site would play a key role in Greencore’s expansion.

“We are pleased to be expanding our presence in the Worksop area,” he said.

“Manton 110 with its strategic position next to a main Greencore manufacturing facility, and excellent transport links, will be a key facility in our continued expansion.”

3M sandwiches each week

Built in 2000, Manton Wood has a capacity of up to 3M sandwiches each week. The facility operates night and day throughout the year and employs up to 2,000 people.

Customers included major supermarket and high street chains, as well as leading forecourt and convenience retailers.

Bassetlaw District Council said the investment highlighted the willingness of major food companies to invest in the area.

“I am delighted that Greencore are expanding their business in Worksop,” said Jo White, cabinet member for regeneration at Bassetlaw District Council.

“We very much value their investment and continued presence in the town and it is particular pleasing to see that the Manton 110 unit will be used as [a] food distribution hub.”

Bassetlaw District Council’s regeneration and investment team assisted Greencore with submitting plans for the development, White said.

Attract further jobs

“We will do all we can to attract further jobs and investment to Worksop and north Nottinghamshire,” she added.

Greencore’s food-to-go business operates out of facilities in: Northampton, London, Liverpool, Spalding, Sheffield and Worksop.

It produces more than 500M sandwiches baguettes and wraps each year across the sites, it claimed.

Its range of products also includes broader food-to-go items such as ready-to-eat salads and sushi.

Food-to-go represents 40% of the food manufacturer’s business. It achieved 7% sales growth in that division for the 26 weeks to March 27, the firm claimed in its interim results.

Greencore plans to invest in longer shelf-life products to boost efficiency and cut waste and in hot snacks to meet growing demand for food-to-go.
