The firm, which supplies cakes to Asda, Morrisons and Makro, will open a 1,487m² bakery in Walsall in February next year, which will create 70 jobs.
The firm also planned to create a further 100 jobs at a new distribution centre in Leicester when operations begin in 2013.
Both facilities will be dedicated solely to the export market, with Perfection’s current site in the Wednesbury, West Midlands continuing to make products for the UK.
Export market
Gurdeep Singh Bath, general manager at Perfection Foods, told FoodManufacture.co.uk that the firm began expansion in 2009.
He said: “As the business has quickly expanded, we are now more focused on the export market and so we have needed to have a separate site custom-built for the export market.”
Singh also said the firm would be seeking British Retail Consortium accrediations for the site.
South and Central America
The new Walsall site will be equipped with new ovens and machinery. The new staff will include managers, according to Bath.
The addition of the Leicester factory gives the firm a combined total area of over 11,148m² across the three sites.
Bath added: “We’re exporting right across Europe, right down to the Mediterranean. And we’re always looking at South and Central America and the Brazil, Russia, India and China markets. It’s really about getting the logistics in place. Once we do, then we’ll enter these markets.”
Perfection Foods was established in 2001, and the firm initially supplied locally and regionally to independent shops and wholesalers. It now exports to 10 different countries across Europe.
Meanwhile, UK food and drink exports soared in the first half of this year. Total exports reached £5.8bn; 13% up on the same same period of last year.
UK food and drink exports have increased in each of the past six years.
