Keeping up with the demand for crops and forecasting to avoid price hikes are the biggest challenges for British-Mexican food firm Cool Chile Co.

That’s the view of the of the firm’s chief operating officer Kelly Peak in this exclusive podcast for FoodManufacture.co.uk.

Listen to our podcast to hear Peak describe the challenges a firm that imports the majority of its ingredients faced.

Price hikes and shortage of crops

“The demand of crops can be a problem,” she said. “[If they don’t have a crop there’s a] shortage of supply, which therefore means we would get a price hike.

“But we try to keep things stable and try to forecast and make sure we have stock.”

Peak said planning six-months’ ahead was the best way to overcome any shortage of supply issues.

She also said having a close relationship with farmers and suppliers prevented any problems.

Look out for our ‘Me and My Factory’ feature with Peak in next month’s edition of Food Manufacture magazine.
