Food businesses should share the amount of food they are wasting and work more collaboratively with food redistribution charities, according to Hubbub’s ceo and founder Trewin Restorick.
In this exclusive video for FoodManufacture.co.uk Restorick also said the government should reinstate its funding for the Love Food Hate Waste campaign.
He also said local authorities in England should increase their waste collection points to rival those in Wales and Scotland and consumers should do more to reduce waste.
“[Food manufacturers should be] incredibly transparent about the amount of food waste they are throwing away at the moment so households understand which companies are doing well and which are doing less well,” Restorick said.
‘The right thing’
“Households will not want to feel that all the blame is being put on them, so they will want to make sure that companies are doing the right thing internally – and we all know that’s about supply chains and making sure they’re not wasting anything in the process.”

He also backed the role of frozen food and encouraging home freezing to help stamp out the problem.
The average UK household currently throws away more than £400 of food a year, Restorick added.
