£20k Burton’s biscuit theft: Three men charged

The trailer was taken from a Welsh factory owned by Burton’s Food, which makes Jammie Dodgers and Cadbury’s chocolate fingers, in June.

Three months after the biscuit raid, police have now charged three men with theft. Two of them were also charged with handling stolen goods.  

Raid in early hours​

The vehicle laden with biscuits was stolen from the Burton’s factory on Ty Coch Way in Cwmbran, South Wales, at 3.10am on June 17.  

Police found the empty trailer in Warrington, Cheshire, later the same day.

Gwent Police said three men have been bailed to appear at Newport Magistrates Court on Tuesday September 29.

Men face theft charges​ 

Its statement said: “The 27-year-old man, from the Cheshire area, has been charged with three counts of theft, handling stolen goods and driving without insurance.​ ​

“The 36-year-old man, from the Liverpool area, has been charged with two counts of theft, handling stolen goods and taking and driving away.​ ​

“The 35-year-old man, from the Liverpool area, has been charged with two counts of theft.”​ ​

Burton’s is the UK’s second largest biscuit supplier, making branded and own­-label biscuits. It bakes market-­leading brands such as Maryland Cookies and Wagon Wheels. ​

The business, headquartered in St Albans, operates manufacturing sites in Cwmbran, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Llantarnam, and a chocolate refinery in Moreton. ​
