Riverside Bakery to axe 44 jobs ‘for long-term future’

Addo Food Group’s Riverside Bakery plans to cut 44 jobs to ensure the company’s long-term future, it claimed.

The bakery – which manufactures chilled quiches, flans and savoury tarts for Asda, Marks & Spencer and Sainsbury – was also changing its payment structure, it revealed this week.

A Riverside Bakery spokeswoman said: “Following a strategic review of our business, we have recognised the need to make changes to our structure in order to ensure the continued success and health of the business.

‘44 roles under review’

“As a result, we are reluctantly proposing to reduce the number of roles within our teams, with 44 roles under review as part of a detailed consultation process. We are also proposing to adjust the terms and conditions of the current pay structure resulting in a new, simpler system for all employees.”

The Nottingham-based bakery would work closely with affected staff to minimise job losses, should the planned restructuring go ahead, it said.

The restructuring was needed to help the company move forward, the bakery claimed.

“We have a long-term commitment to Nottingham and our intention is to build a business that can continue to positively contribute to Nottingham's economy and its people,” the spokeswoman said.

250,000 quiches a day

Riverside Bakery produces 250,000 quiches a day, Addo Food Group’s website said. The bakery had “significant investment in the last few years, which has allowed the business to develop new state-of-the-art manufacturing assets,” it added.

The job cuts at Riverside bakery would be the second wave of job losses from Addo Food Group since the start of 2017. In January, the group revealed plans to axe 46 jobs at its Spalding Bakery, after it decided to restructure its shift system.

Meanwhile, Riverside Bakery’s Raheem Gordon was nominated for the Young Talent of the Year award at the Food Manufacture Excellence Awards 2016. You can register your interest for this year’s awards evening – taking place on November 1 at Hilton Park Lane, London.
