Turkey boss sets out goal on campylobacter

Bernard Matthews group technical director Jeremy Hall has set out his mission to make poultry the meat of choice over the next 10 years by preventing campylobacter food poisoning.

In this video – filmed after Hall received the Food Manufacture Personality of the year Oscar, Hall said: “I want to make sure that campylobacter, which causes huge problems to consumers, can be wiped out and we can make broilers and turkeys safe for the future.

“I want to help make poultry meat the number one meat of the next decade.”

‘The number one meat’

Hall received the trophy at the Food Manufacture Excellence Awards (FMEAs) at the Lancaster hotel, in London last week.

The FMEA awards’ independent judging panel – led by Paul Wilkinson, chair of National Skills Academy – praised Hall’s pioneering work to cut campylobacter infection– Britain’s top cause of food poisoning – on fresh poultry.

His  achievements were recognised in front of hundreds of industry guests, as he collected the trophy from the awards host and star TV presenter Mark Durden-Smith (who appeared first in this video) and the category sponsor FoodManJobs business development manager Leon Wright.
