Dairy site is a global anaerobic digestion trendsetter

A relatively small dairy site in Dorset is receiving international attention for its pioneering anaerobic digestion (AD) plant.

The plant at BV Dairy in Shaftesbury, Dorset, takes the waste products from the production process and turns it into energy that is used in the factory.

In this exclusive podcast for FoodManufacture.co.uk, technical and operations director Alan McInnes outlines the economic and environmental benefits the project is reaping.

Diageo and Nestlé

He also explains how much energy is provided and why there is scope for further gains to be made.

The plant is a UK AD demonstration site and has been visited by overseas governments as well as major manufacturers such as Diageo and Nestlé as they sought to tap into its success.

Listen to the podcast to discover what technical challenges had to be overcome to make the plant fit for purpose, how McInnes was able to source the funding for the £2M project and hear what’s next for the firm as it strives to reduce its environmental impact.

Watch out for our interview feature with McInnes in a forth coming issue of FoodManufacture.
