In this exclusive video interview Professor Ian Crute, chief scientist with the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, told FoodManufacture.co,uk that “snap shot messages” about food sustainability risked confusing the public and impairing the debate.

While complex topics were involved – such as global warming and energy use – a meaningful debate depended on full consideration of all the topics in the big picture, he said.
Crute was speaking at the conference – Securing the future supply of food: challenges and opportunies – staged jointly by the IFST and the Institute of Food Research at the John Innes Centre, near Norwich.
Earlier this month Crute told us that food sustainability should begin at home. Ensuring the sustainability of domestic food supplies was key to ensuring UK food and drink manufacturers were well supplied with high quality products, he said.
