A new system has been installed by Charkman at its meat processing plant near Gothenburg in Sweden to handle the slicing, portion control, and packing of salami, ham, sausage, and other cooked meats.
Sourced from AEW Delford Systems, the Junior slicer system is used to cut the products into 180mm-long pieces. Then, a robot portion loading system (RPLS), also supplied by AEW, picks the slices and places them into thermoformed trays at speeds in excess of 50 packs a minute. These trays are then weighed, priced, and labelled and placed into cartons for shipment.
The system has "greatly increased" capacity and flexibility at Charkman's plant. "Slices can be handled much more quickly, and with a level of precision and consistency that could not be achieved using manual means," says md Kjeil Fernbrand.
