Oscar Mayer scooped the top prize in the Best Product of the Year and Best Ready Meal categories at the SuperMeat 2005 awards for its Beef in Ale with Mustard & Thyme Dumplings meal for Sainsbury.

The Chard based manufacturer also won the Best Lamb Product award for its Lebanese-style Five Spice Lamb with Bukhari Rice, also for Sainsbury.

Dalehead Foods was awarded Best Beef Product for Waitrose’s Beef Joint with a Horseradish & Mustard Crust. Best Poultry Product also went to Waitrose for its Parmesan Cheese Chicken Breasts filled with Sunblush Tomato and Garlic and Oregano Butter produced by Bigham’s of London.

Tesco’s Mediterranean Style Pork Sausages from Walkers Midshire Foods won Best Sausage and the supermarket also picked up the Best Salmon Product for its Salmon En Croute from Young’s Bluecrest. The Best Seafood Product was Somerfield’s King Prawns with Garlic & Herb Butter from Uniq Prepared Foods. Grampian Country Food Group received the Best Pork/Bacon Product award for Asda’s Unsmoked Gammon Joint with Prune & Brandy Stuffing.

Over 100 products were judged on taste, aroma, packaging and product information before comedian Jimmy Carr announced the winners at the awards dinner at the Hilton hotel in London. Sponsored by Food Manufacture’s sister publication, Meat Trades Journal, the awards also saw abattoir and processing plant Lloyd Maunder presented with the new Red Meat Industry Forum Award for Supply Chain Excellence.

Asda at Morriston in Swansea was named Best Meat & Seafood Store.
