Leicester-based Euro Air UK has introduced a range of fabric ducting products that are ideal for maintaining low temperatures in cold rooms while ensuring workers in the area remain comfortable. These include standard weave ‘socks’ for gentle distribution and nozzle socks for directing air to specific areas.
A big challenge facing cold room designers is the need to supply high volumes of cold air to maintain the required temperature, without creating uncomfortable draughts. This is particularly difficult when processing machinery is being used in the space, generating high heat loads that require even higher volumes of cold air.
With conventional metal ductwork and grilles, cold air exits through a small surface area at high velocities to achieve efficient distribution, causing uncomfortable draughts for staff. Fabric ducting offers a gentler, yet highly effective alternative as cool air passes through the weave of the fabric over the entire surface area of the sock and its greater density causes it to settle slowly into the occupied space at low velocity.
Where the cold air needs to be directed to specific areas, nozzle socks with rows of nozzles sewn along the length of the sock provide a long throw of air with optimum entrainment of room air to provide fast cooling.
As the cold air is directed away from staff, this arrangement still avoids discomfort.
Euro Air’s fabric ducting can be supplied in a range of weaves to suit each project and can be quickly and easily washed in a standard commercial washing machine.
