Dairy Crest is launching a new spread enriched with omega-3 in a bid to grab a larger slice of the burgeoning functional foods market.
Details have yet to be confirmed, but chief executive Drummond Hall said the spread would be under the St Ivel Gold brand.
He said: “We see functional health as a big opportunity, and we have just launched St Ivel Advance milk with omega-3 and Petits Filous Plus, a probiotic drinking yogurt for children. A spread is the obvious next step.
“We are re-launching St Ivel Gold and Gold Lowest with new packaging and new products in January, and in tandem with that, we are launching an omega-3 spread under the St Ivel Gold brand. This will come with some very strong heart health claims that are supported by the Joint Health Claims Initiative.”
