Culina Logistics has opened its third temperature-controlled distribution centre at Prime Point in Staffordshire.
The 15,956 metre squared site, which reflects growing demand from retailers for daily deliveries of chilled food, will create up to 300 new jobs as it becomes fully operational in the coming months.
Located just off junction 14 of the M6, the depot will process 150 vehicles a day and supply up to 450 retailer and wholesaler regional distributions centres. It has more than 1,000 pick locations, 14,000 pallet spaces, 12m high eaves, conventional and narrow aisle racking and 15 dock entry loading bays.
Products will be tracked using hand held Teklogix radio data transfer (RDT) scanners to ensure pick accuracy of 99.995%.
Culina, which recently won the contract to provide storage and distribution services for luxury desserts maker Gü, operates two similar depots at Milton Keynes and Market Drayton handling products from companies including Tropicana and Kraft.
