Buxtons Foods has developed a range of Peter Rabbit Organics fruit purées for kids.
Packed in squeezy pouches, the purées have no added sugar or salt; are free from genetically modified ingredients; and contain 100% fruit. The purées come in Apple flavour made with apple, lime and grape juice; and Peach & Apricot flavour made with peach, apricot, apple, grape, lemon, and acerola cherry.
The purées can be squirted on to porridge, yoghurt or desserts, claims the firm, and each pouch has a screwtop lid so it can be re-sealed.
Another manufacturer hoping to increase children's fruit consumption is Somerset-based Sauces of Choice, which has just launched a range of handmade sauces. "There are no modified ingredients, no wheat or gluten, and, as requested by the judges, no lumpy bits!" claims the company. Fruits such as mango, dates, pineapple, raisins and apricots are used to naturally sweeten the sauces, while fresh herbs, garlic and spices add flavour.
"Each of our new sauces is packed full of nutritious fruits and vegetables, which some children might turn their noses up at, such as turnips, butter beans, cabbage and dates," says Christine Owen, founder of the company. "We have blended all the ingredients together to make smooth, delicious sauces, which parents can give to their children, confident in the knowledge that they are feeding them healthy, natural food with no hidden nasties."
The range includes Kids Korma Sauce, which the firm recommends served over chicken or roasted vegetables; Mild Chilli Sauce, which is suited to rice or mashed potato; Sweet and Sour Sauce; Cumberland Sauce; Kids BBQ Sauce; Kids Tikka Sauce; Tomato and Herb Sauce; and Bolognese Sauce.
All the sauces contain over 65% fruits and vegetables, which the company claims are 'hidden' well so that children won't object.
