Slovenian food manufacturer Droga Kolinska, has launched new mineral water brand Donat Mg into the UK.

Sourced from the ancient Rogaska spring in Slovenia, Donat Mg contains magnesium, which is believed to have a multitude of health benefits.

"Unlike magnesium supplements, Donat Mg water can be absorbed straight into the blood stream, making it more effective than taking tablets or capsules," claims the company.

The firm says that because the human body cannot create magnesium itself, people need to consume between 300 and 350 milligrams per day. This amount can be gained from drinking half a litre of Donat Mg daily.

The water can be used to help alleviate health problems including muscle cramps, premenstrual tension and kidney stones, claims the company. Magnesium helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function; keeps heart rhythm steady; supports a healthy immune system: and keeps bones strong.

There is also interest in the role of magnesium in assisting in the management of hypertension.
