An announcement regarding legal action against Cadbury over its handling of last year's salmonella contamination, was "imminent" according to Birmingham council.
As revealed by Food Manufacture last month, Cadbury could be summoned to Birmingham Magistrates Court if the council gets the go-ahead to launch a case against the firm.
The council's food safety team leader Nick Lowe said that, assuming the material collated by investigators was all in order, a summons would be issued.
At issue was whether Cadbury breached EC 178/2002 (General Food Law) and/or EC 852/2004 (Hygiene of Foodstuffs) in its handling of the salmonella contamination at its Marlbrook factory last year.
Lowe's comments came as Cadbury was forced into another costly recall after failing to put food allergy warning labels on some Easter products that could have contained nuts.
