Leading British ingredients specialist Beacon Foods has recruited five food science graduates, underlining its commitment to achieving the highest possible quality standards.
The graduates include Helen Curnock (pictured), who has joined the new product development team as a process technologist after graduating from Nottingham University with first class honours.
She has been joined by T K Lim and Nur Aziz Rackman, who have secured 12-week work placements with the company from Nottingham University supported by Graduate Opportunities Wales (GO Wales). T K Lim is working on an internal auditing project, whilst Aziz is working on raw materials specifications.
The GO Wales project helps students, graduates and businesses in Wales to work together for mutual benefit. The project is managed by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) and is delivered by universities in Wales.
Project staff help businesses, particularly SMEs, to access higher level skills whilst students and graduates are helped to make the best start to their career in Wales. Managed, quality work placements are based around the completion of a project and many SMEs can access a subsidy to assist with the salary.
Other graduates already working for the Brecon-based company include quality assurance manager Catrin Walters and specifications co-ordinator Tracy Pritchard.
Linda Lloyd, Beacon Food's human resources director, said: "It's a real feather in our cap to be able to employ these five graduates or undergraduates and helps with succession planning.
"The support from GO Wales over the past four years has been instrumental in encouraging us to pursue this initiative which has many positive spin-offs for Beacon Foods and our customers."
