Shaws of Huddersfield has announced two new appointments as part of its development plans to ensure continuity and sustainability of the company into the future.

Jim Peace is the new production director and Emma Ellis takes on the role of company secretary.

Peace, 31, son of md Terence Pace, first worked at Shaws at the age of nine, when he washed staff cars for pocket money; but there was to be a gap of some 20 years before he returned to the company in 2005, to the new post of business development manager. After leaving school Jim worked in the marketing department of HSBC Bank, as a graduate trainee at Lloyds TSB and then as community development officer for the Peak District National Park. Peace then wanted to make a career change and consulted a careers counsellor who helped him identify his requirements for a fulfilling job. He realised that Shaws offered exactly what he was looking for and when the post of Business Development Officer was created he applied for the job.

“I am looking forward to continuing to improve and modernise the business and helping to ensure that the company remains sustainable for the 6th generation of the Shaw family,” says Peace. “I have always loved working for Shaws. There is always variety, it’s never boring and I enjoy having the opportunity to influence its direction into the future.”

Emma Ellis, 36, first came to Shaws at the age of 18 for two weeks’ work experience. She impressed the management so much that when a vacancy arose, they sought her out and invited her to join the company as a permanent member of staff. During her 18 years with Shaws Ellis has worked on reception, in stock control, on wages and purchase ledger, and most recently as office manager.

Commenting on her new role, Emma says, “I have worked here for eighteen years and I can honestly say that I’ve enjoyed coming to work every single day; I’ve never had a ‘Monday morning feeling’. I’m looking forward very much to the future and to being part of the continuing development of the company.”
