The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) has appointed Barbara Gallani to head up its new Biscuit, Cake, Chocolate and Confectionery (BCCC) sector group. She will join the FDF on February 20.

As manager of the BCCC group Gallani will be responsible for directing and developing with members, policies that reflect the issues faced by this sector. The role will also include providing an effective link between the group and broader FDF activities, ensuring that members of the group are fully integrated into the FDF.

Gallani is currently food policy executive at the British Retail Consortium, where she is responsible for representing retailers’ positions on food safety issues, novel foods and technologies, genetically modified foods policy and local enforcement. She has over seven years’ experience of working for the food and drink industry, with previous roles at the Food Standards Agency and the European Consumers’ Organisation in Brussels.

Melanie Leech, FDF director general, said: “The BCCC sector group was created to take on the majority of activities, which were until the end of 2007 carried out by the Biscuit, Cake, Chocolate and Confectionery Association (BCCCA). I am delighted to welcome Barbara to the FDF. Under her direction this new group will allow the FDF to speak with even greater authority on topics at the heart of this important sector.”

Barbara Gallani said: “I look forward to working with the FDF on taking this new group forward. We will be focusing on the trade, technical and regulatory aspects of the BCCCA’s work and will give members the benefits of greater synergy with the FDF’s programmes and more seamless access to its expertise.”
