Wrights Pies, the baked goods and confectionery manufacturer, has promoted Neville Carruthers to the newly-created position of operations director at its Crewe site.

Carruthers has been operations manager since joining the family-owned business in 2004. With extensive experience of the food manufacturing industry, he was formerly factory manager at Ashworths Foods in Preston after occupying the same position at the frozen food operation of the Perkins Group in Stoke-on-Trent.Over the past four years, Wrights Pies has invested around £4M million in modernising and expanding the production facilities at Crewe, which produces savoury pies, pasties and sausage rolls. It has introduced a new spiral freezer. modern BCH cooking and cooling system, a highly-automated Radermaker pie production line and a second Fritsh puff pasty line.

Next month Wrights is to open a new £2M cold store, which will have the capacity to hold 2,300 pallets.
