Many waste water streams, even after primary treatment, contain small suspended solids that make the stream turbid.

Turbidity greatly reduces the efficiency of downstream ultra violet light disinfection units, but because the particles are suspended solids, they cannot easily be removed by settling. However, these solids can easily be removed by active filtration and screening such as provided by Bioclere Scrufilter.

Scrufilter units are free-standing and made from stainless steel. At the heart of the device are the screening cloths. The cloths are made from durable polyester or stainless steel mesh and come with mesh sizes from 20 microns to 100 microns.

The turbid waste water flows over the screening cloths which filter out the suspended solids leaving a virtually clear waste stream.

The filter screen surface is constantly swept by an archimedian screw which prevents the build up of solids on the screen and maintains the screening efficiency of the unit. The Scrufilter FLO6D units are capable of processing 60m³/h.
