Space-saving solution for tin handling
RTS Flexible Systems has joined forces with Excel Automation to roll out a space-saving solution for automated tin handling to help independent bakers.
Plant bakers often need systems that can store, retrieve and exchange batches of tins welded together in which product is baked. Some firms conduct these changeovers manually. Usually RTS uses a Crocus gantry system to do the job, but it found that in some instances it would have taken up too much room.
"Reducing or eliminating tin damage is a key requirement of modern plant bakeries and we have developed solutions based on robotics and the application of leading commercially available components, integrated with our own technology," said RTS UK sales manager Roy Fraser.
"For this customer application we devised an alternative solution to Crocus using floor conveyor systems and a conventional six-axis arm robot, to perform the operation the gantry would normally perform.
"Excel was selected because we were impressed with the conveyor systems supplied to its established customers in the automotive and other industries."
The conveyors can carry up to 14t of product and the robot is supplied by robotics firm ABB.
