Cottage cheese maker Uniq Prepared Foods is set to launch a new branded offering that it hopes will drive incremental growth across this food category.
Uniq says its 'honestly...' brand will bring a real point of difference to the sector, thanks to the use of an innovative production process that allows the firm to make what it claims is the first ever smooth and spreadable cottage cheese product.
Brand manager Wayne Gower says: "honestly... is a totally different proposition to anything that is currently available and we are confident it will re-ignite consumer interest in cottage cheese. The category has been in steady decline over recent years and we really need to remind people about the product's excellent health credentials."
The launch follows extensive consumer research and testing. This showed that while a lot of people like the taste of traditional cottage cheese, some found the 'lumpy' texture off-putting.
"By developing a smooth version of cottage cheese we have come up with a really versatile product that has unrivalled natural health and diet credentials that will appeal to a whole new market," says Gower. "At the same time we want to make sure that we take existing users along with us and will therefore be launching a chunky version to complement the smooth."
The new range will launch in four varieties, in 225gm pots at an rrp of £1.25 for natural varieties and £1.35 for the others.
