Caribbean chilled ready meals will be rolled out across Asda stores next year after a successful tie-up with Dragons' Den contenders Mark and Elina Davis.
The couple, who persuaded Duncan Bannatyne and James Caan from the BBC Two show to part with £100,000 for a stake in the Caribbean Food Company last year, recently struck a deal with S&A Foods to manufacture their meals under licence at its Derby factory for a trial in 34 Asda stores.
After dropping the price from £3.99 to £2.98, the chicken-based meals have flown off the shelves, wastage has plummeted, and a roll-out is planned for 2009, said Mark Davis.
"After seeing the guy who took his Reggae Sauce on Dragon's Den, I thought, why don't we do that? Now we have the Asda listing we are in a position to approach other supermarkets with a product that is on the market and selling well," he said.
