Watson-Marlow Bredel is launching three new IP66 ingress-protection rated peristaltic pumps with Profibus DP networking capabilities. The first model to be shipped, the Watson-Marlow Bredel 720Bp, is the world's first cased peristaltic pump enabled with Profibus DP networking.

Previously, pump users could link pumps into a computer network using a Profibus gateway to control cased peristaltic pumps using the Profibus networking protocol. But diagnostic data was not available remotely via the network. Compared with non-networked pumps, the Profibus-compatible units reduce engineering, hardware and installation costs, as well as offering remote diagnostics that help to minimise plant downtime and maintenance costs.

The status reports available via Profibus for the three new pumps cover: start/stop; speed; direction of rotation; running hours; tacho count; and flow calibration. In the event of a failure, the pump will transmit an initial alarm notification covering: general fault; leak detected; guard open; and software version mismatch. The pump can then be interrogated over the Profibus network to give more detailed analysis of the failure.

Other features include a fail-safe system that stops the pump in the event of a network failure and maintenance-free brushless direct current motors that consume 30% less energy.
