Starch offers an ‘additive-free’ solution
National Starch Food Innovation has launched two products, Novation 4300 and Novation 5300, which can be used to thicken cold water in a variety of food applications.
Since they are classified as ingredients and not additives "manufacturers can differentiate brands with a ‘no additive’ positioning,” said European marketing manager Laura Goodbrand.
The waxy maizebased starches have been specially developed for intensive processes and are suitable for mayonnaise, dressings, dips, gravy, pizza toppings and fruit pie fillings. And as instant starches, they are precooked.
Other products in the range include potato-based Novation 6600 designed for moderate process tolerance in applications such as soups, sauces andready meals.
