Metal packaging manufacturer Impress is making its latest generation of easy-peel membrane can-ends - jointly developed with Bonduelle - more widely available.
Inside a batch retort, overpressure can compensate for the build-up of pressure in the can. Since this is not possible in a continuous retort, the pack has to absorb the pressure differential. In the case of the Impress Easip end, this differential can be up to 1.3 bars.
The tough aluminium laminate, which will flex in response to pressure, is heat-sealed to a metal ring. This ring is double seamed to the can body using standard seaming technology.
As well as being easier to pull open, says Impress, Easip is up to 50% lighter than traditional ends, and is said to offer the same oxygen and light barrier and overall shelf-life.
