Fish factory to close
Cumbrian Seafoods has confirmed that it will not reopen its Maryport fish factory on the Solway Industrial Estate in Cumbria. The site has been temporarily closed since November, when 30 jobs were lost. But at the time, bosses said that the company was doing everything it could to reopen the factory this year.
Whisky in the jar
Glenmorangie's plans to build a multimillion-pound bottling and office facility in West Lothian came a step closer when the firm announced it had agreed a deal to buy an 11-acre site on which to house the development. The acquisition of the site in Livingston is conditional on the distiller securing detailed planning consent from West Lothian Council. The firm says it will form part of its £45M investment programme, which will employ 120 staff.
Pizza Presentation
Stateside Foods has worked in partnership with Smurfit Kappa to win a contract for the supply of 99% of a leading UK supermarket's pizza supply by solving a packaging problem and improving presentation of the product. The new pizza display pack includes ridges that make the pizza sit back in its box so that it doesn't topple to the front.
One Love
The UK's first 1% fat milk will be supporting the Food Standards Agency's (FSA) campaign to reduce the nation's intake of saturated fats. Robert Wiseman Dairies' one percent fat milk brand 'the One' will feature an on-pack endorsement of the FSA's campaign.
