Calder Foods, producer of mayonnaise-based sandwich fillings and salads, has invested in an upgrade of its depositing and filling machinery from Riggs Autopack.

Having previously purchased a number of Riggs Model 1000 depositing machines, the company has now placed orders for a further depositor, two lid pressing units and two metering pumps, which are to be integrated into existing production lines at the firm's premises in Cumbria.

The Model 1000 is ideal for Calder Foods due to its quick changeover times. It can easily deposit into different sized tubs during the same batch run from 70g and upwards to 10kg buckets by multi-cycling.

The metering pump shows accuracy and versatility by transferring mayonnaise from pallecon containers directly into product mixes. Calder Foods says this used to be done manually and was time consuming, often leading to waste.

Chris McClelland, operations manager, commented: "I'm very impressed with how the machine operates; its responsiveness and adaptability are superb. The equipment is easy to clean and downtime has been significantly reduced.

"As a nationwide supplier it is paramount that the equipment we use is accurate, easy to use and efficient."
