Over 300 jobs were lost at Strathaird Salmon in Inverness on Friday, after the site was closed by its parent firm.
The Seafood Company, part of the Findus Group, took the decision to close its site last year, after it claimed the site would need a £7M investment to continue operations.
Since then production at the site has been transferred to another Seafood Company’s site in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.
An industry insider, however, said that the seafood processor had been in talks with another food company, which was interested in taking over the lease, as well as some machinery and equipment.
He said if the site was taken over by another firm, this would give hope to hundreds of employees who had lost their jobs last week.
Strathaird Salmon employed more than 300 people, most of which opted for redundancy. However, some continued to work for parent firm The Seafood Company at other factories located in Scotland and England.
