The Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) has appointed Jon Poole as designate chief executive from January 2010.

Poole was deputy chief executive officer for the Society of Chemical Industry. Prior to that, he worked for a number of other third-sector membership organisations on a consultancy basis.

He said: “The need remains as strong as ever for IFST’s integrity, impartiality on technical issues and commitment to high standards of practice throughout the food chain. I am looking forward to delivering its new strategic vision. The Institute is in good shape and ready for future growth.”

Poole will succeed the current chief executive, Helen Gay Wild, when she retires in March.

IFST president, Professor Carol Phillips, appointed in April 2009, said: “We welcome the new chief executive and the expertise he brings to IFST. I look forward to working with him to build on the excellent work of his predecessor in raising the awareness of issues in food science and technology, both within the professional and public arenas.”
