Tray sealer mashes giveaway

An Ishida tray sealer and checkweigher/metal detector combination has reduced giveaway and improved speed at Mash Direct, a quick-serve mashed potato and vegetable manufacturer based in Northern Ireland.

Mash Direct's products are sold in twin-portion 400g trays, with approximately half also available as single portions. Family packs of 1kg trays are also on offer for the most popular products.

Although the process includes chilling the product, the absence of any additives, preservatives or colourings means that packing has to be rapid. The Ishida QX-775 tray sealer promises high speeds, packing up to 70 trays a minute in the single-lane configuration used at Mash Direct, with temperature control and consistent seal force. The inside cut profiles provide the trays with easy-peel seals for consumer appeal and safety.

"The QX-775 has given us more consistent seals than before," says Neil Houghton, Mash Direct's general manager. "It has also increased our line speed, allowing us to reduce our working time."
