Issue Two of the standard, which was published last month, takes effect from March 1, 2011 and is designed to ensure best practice in the handling, storage and distribution of products. It also promotes continuous improvement in operating practices.
It includes audit requirements, scheme rules and background and provides the basis for an accredited certification of sites storing and/or distributing food, packaging and consumer products. It also covers waste recovery and recycling, cleaning distribution containers and contracted services such as repacking.
"We have training courses, which will shortly be available, so people can understand the standard," said Betts.
