Off to a tea

Four Greenbank compactors are helping Typhoo Tea recycle 100% of its waste at its UK headquarters on the Wirral.

The firm has been using three compactors for the skeletal waste of its tea bags (the off-cuts of filter paper that remain when the tea bags are cut out). As it drew close to being able to process nearly all of the site's waste, Typhoo had a fourth compactor installed.

Now Typhoo operations manager Ken Mullin is confident that Typhoo Tea can achieve 100% recycling by early 2011."Because all our waste is now compacted so well by the machines, our landfill has significantly reduced and so have our transport costs," he said.

"We used to have our waste collected twice a week and now we only need to have it taken away once a month!"
