Eastern promise of frozen chips

Eastern promise of frozen chips
Chilling and freezing specialist GEA Eurotek has reported "a bumper serving of order wins", which it attributes to China and India's increasing appetite for French fries.

The latest installation was a bespoke individually quick frozen and spiral system to handle four tonnes of French fries an hour at a new factory in Agra.

Many of these large-scale projects have been undertaken in partnership with potato processing equipment specialist Kiremko, as was a recent installation for Pomcobel, a part of Belgian firm Mydibel.

The sequential defrost spiral is designed to handle up to five tonnes of piping hot, freshly fried potato product an hour achieving an output temperature of -18°C.

"This was a complex challenge for our team," says GEA Eurotek sales director David Hallifax. "Not least because of the volume, temperature and moisture loss of the potato products."
