Fatal abattoir accident

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is working with Strathclyde Police to investigate the death of a worker at an abattoir in Scotland.

Alex McCrae, a 23-year old worker from Dumbarton was seriously injured at about 1145am on Thursday, November 17 at the Sandyford Abattoir in Paisley. He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he died a short time later, according to a spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police. An investigation is underway and a full report on the circumstances will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal, she added.

Cow carcass fall

It has been reported that a cow carcass fell on him, causing fatal injuries.

A spokesman for the Sandyford Abattoir said: "We are saddened by this death and express our deepest sympathy to the family. We are obviously working closely with the investigating authorities to establish what happened and are therefore unable to make any further comment at this stage.”
