East-Kilbride bakery products supplier Enterprise Foods has been named as a firm to watch, linked to a hot 100 list of British private companies with the fastest growing profits.

Enterprise Foods ─ which operates as a supply-chain manager for the craft-bakery industry ─ was featured in a list of the 10 most promising up-and-coming firms compiled by The Sunday Times​.

The firm buys from than 250 bakeries in the UK and supplies about 25,000 product lines to customers including Compass and Co-op.

Cakes to savouries

Its range covers ambient bakery categories from cakes to savouries. In addition to  kosher, organic and ethnic products, it delivers low GI and gluton/wheat free products.

Enterprise achieved profits of £2.2M on sales of £44.5M.

Tony Moloney, chief executive, led a management buyout five years ago. He acquired the firm for £4.5M with funding from the South Yorkshire Investment Fund.

Also featured on the most promising list wasfine wine broker Fine + Rare Wines and market research agency Euromonitor.

They were joined by the packaging manufacturer Logson Group and six other firms including a software developer and a ladies clothing retailer.

The firms were selected to reflect the strength of their management, innovation, past growth and future prospects.

Commenting on the list, Suzi Woolfson, partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers wrote: “These 10 companies deserve to be acknowledged, even though they have not achieved the minimum 42% annual profit growth over the past three years required for the main table.”

Meanwhile, six food and drink firms were included in the hot 100 list itself.

Tangerine Confectionery

Top three positions in the list were held by alcoholic drinks maker Halewood International, ranked 41st​, egg products producer Noble Foods, in 48th​ place and sweet maker Tangerine Confectionery, ranked 60th​.

The other firms were frozen food supplier Fullers Foods, in 71st​ place, beer and cider brewery Aston Manor Brewery, ranked 84th​ and food and drink distributor Grocontinental, in 94th​ place.
