BHJ UK's bullish charge into halal sector with beef protein

Increased demand for halal products has driven proteins supplier BHJ UK into that market after securing official certification for its Scanpro Beef 95 functional protein ingredient.

Following audits by the Islamic Centre Aachen in Germany, BHJ's Scanpro Beef 95 is now available to all specialist meat processors and manufacturers sourcing halal ingredients for beef-based products.

BHJ said that the product could be used in a wide range of applications including injected, emulsified and ground beef products. The firm added that it could help improve succulence, texture and sliceability, while reducing waste generated through the cooking process.

"With around 2.5M Muslims in the UK and 1.6bn halal consumers globally, this is a growing consumer market and certification is essential for gaining access," said Richard Parnell, sales and marketing director of BHJ UK.

"Now, customers manufacturing beef-based products for the halal food industry have full access to our Scanpro Beef 95 protein and its added benefits. With increasing demand, it has never been a better time for us to ensure our ingredients are accessible to this market."

BHJ UK has more than 30 years' experience in developing functional proteins for meat processors. The company, which is based at Tipton in the West Midlands, claims that its product portfolio delivers direct benefits for manufacturers, such as reduced formulation costs and improved product texture.
