'Next generation sugar' ingredient

An ingredient made by a German food group is being used to 'power' a low-glycaemic-index performance drink that has been launched in the US

Beneo's slow-release carbohydrate Palatinose (isomaltulose) will be the ingredient behind a new beverage created for endurance, performance and energy. Derived from sugar beets, Palatinose is a healthy, low-glycaemic, functional carbohydrate that is fully digestible and provides a prolonged energy supply in the form of glucose.

Nth Degree's Low GI drink comes in four flavours: orange, raspberry, lemon citrus and fruit punch.

Beneo says Palatinose offers slow energy release in the form of glucose over a longer period and has a low effect on normal blood glucose levels compared with higher glycaemic index sweeteners.

Beneo says studies prove that it promotes the body's own fat oxidation during physical activity as well as during rest.
