A food factory worker was rushed to hospital with spinal injuries yesterday after becoming trapped in machinery at 2 Sisters’ chicken processing site in Scunthorpe.

A spokesman for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “We received a call at 2.35pm when a 38-year-old man became trapped in machinery at the 2 Sisters factory in the lairage area. By the time we got there he had been released by his colleagues and we gave him oxygen therapy.”

After administering trauma care, firefighters left the man in the care of the paramedics. He was taken to Scunthorpe General Hospital with spinal injuries.

‘A matter of urgency’

Andrew Hanson, head of communications at 2 Sisters Food Group told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “2 Sisters Food Group confirms that an incident occurred yesterday afternoon at our Scunthorpe site, involving one of our colleagues. Our colleague was taken to hospital and our priority is for his welfare.”

It is not yet known how the man became trapped in the machinery.

Hanson said: “We are investigating this incident as a matter of urgency. We will provide an update once further details are known.”

He is being treated at Scunthorpe General Hospital.
