2 Sisters worker in ‘life threatening’ condition after industrial accident
The man was rushed to Scunthorpe General Hospital last week (September 6) with spinal injuries. He had become trapped in machinery in the lairage area of the chicken processing plant on the Foxhills Industrial Estate in Scunthorpe.
A spokeswoman for Humberside Police told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “A 38-year-old Scunthorpe man had sustained crush injuries to the body following an incident with a piece of machinery and was taken by ambulance to Scunthorpe General Hospital in a critical condition.”
Humberside Police cordoned off the area and production at the factory was stopped.
‘Life threatening’
A spokeswoman from the police service described the man’s injuries as “life threatening”.
It is understood that the employee works as a machinist. It is not yet known how he became trapped in the machinery.
Humberside Police said: “Inquiries are ongoing at the scene and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed and will be investigating the incident jointly with Humberside Police.”
Andrew Hanson, head of communications at 2 Sisters Food Group told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “We are continuing our investigations into the incident as a matter of urgency.”
