Improved data logging makes diagnostics easy

Mitsubishi says its new L Series programmable logic controller (PLC) offers increased functionality, ease of expansion and a user-centric design inspired by the FX micro PLC.

The built-in data logging enables easy monitoring of equipment effectiveness, energy use, sequencing and production traceability. This data can be stored on a secure digital memory card in the integral slot.

The built-in data logger supports asynchronous scan-independent sampling as fast as one millisecond. Mitsubishi says separating its operation from the cyclic scan of the PLC gives greater flexibility and sample frequency.

Configuration of the data logger is made with parameterisation rather than programming, which saves setup time. This enables quick reconfiguration of reports to capture the data for analysis.

The L Series supports timed logging as well as trigger logging so at a triggered event, such as an alarm, a number of samples can be taken before and after the trigger. This helps to diagnose the events that led to the trigger, and the subsequent results.
