PM reshuffle: knives out at DEFRA

Two ministers have been sacked in Prime Minister David Cameron’s government reshuffle on Monday October 7.

Former food and farming minister David Heath and former fisheries minister Richard Benyon both lost their jobs. Heath, Liberal Democrat MP for Somerset and Frome, has been replaced by the Dan Rogerson, fellow Liberal Democrat MP for North Cornwall.

Benyon, Conservative MP for Newbury was replaced by fellow Tory George Eustice, MP for Camborne and Redruth.

Shadow cabinet

Meanwhile, in a reshuffle of the shadow cabinet, Maria Eagle has replaced Mary Creagh as shadow secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs. Eagle is MP for Liverpool Garston and Halewood.

Creagh, who is MP for Wakefield, has been promoted to shadow secretary of state for transport.

Former health minister Anna Soubry, Conservative MP Broxtowe, who played a key role in the Public Health Responsibility Deal, was transferred to the Ministry of Defence. 

Soubry was replaced by Jane Ellison, Conservative MP for Battersea.
