Trish Clarke teamed up with the Liverpool-based firm to produce the 10kg novelty item, which comes with trimmings such as Brussels sprouts, carrots and roast potatoes all made of cake.
The creation, which uses a variety of techniques, from hand sculpting and modelling to airbrushing, took a week to create and is covered in Renshaw’s marzipan and ready-to-roll icing.
‘Keen to experiment’
“We at Renshaw have definitely noted a move away from the classic Christmas fruit cake, with more people keen to experiment with style and decoration,” said Mark Bosworth, marketing director at Renshaw, which claims to make more than 70% of the UK’s marzipan production.
“Trish’s creation shows how working with sugarpaste can become art – hopefully she’ll inspire others to put their creativity to the test.”
Clarke said: “After getting no orders for fruit cakes this year, I decided it was time to do something different to get people talking about the sweeter side of Christmas.”
