McVitie's Digestives will return to their old recipe from February 2014, manufacturer United Biscuits has confirmed after being lobbied by fans.

The recipe was changed in 2009 and 2010 to replace sustainable palm oil with the reduced saturated fat sunflower oil. But some consumers complained they missed the taste, texture and dunkability of the old recipe.

‘Classic recipe’

The firm said in a statement: “United Biscuits' decision to revert back to the classic recipe is driven by the desire to deliver the best possible taste experience for consumers.”

Consumers who want a lower saturated alternative can choose McVitie's Digestive Light, it added. This product has the same saturated fat content nd 30% less total fat than the current McVitie's Digestives recipe.

The recipe for McVitie's Chocolate Digestives has remained unchanged.
