Bakkavor reaches deal to call off GMB strike vote

Bakkavor has reached a deal with the GMB union to avoid a strike ballot planned at its Park Royal pizza plant in London in a row over pay.

A spokesman for the fresh prepared foods manufacturer said: “Bakkavor Group is pleased to announce that it has reached agreement with the GMB union regarding pay discussions at its Bakkavor pizza operation in Harrow. Consequently, the planned industrial action ballot will not go ahead.”

On January 10, the firm expressed disappointment at news that 600 of its workers were to be balloted over strike action.

Speaking at the same time, the GMB union said its members had tolerated below inflation increases in pay for the past four years while, ensuring that the business has thrived and continued to make profit.
